askasher.ai (ā€œweā€, ā€œusā€) provides free educational spelling and vocabulary games for students, families and classrooms. Many of our users are children under 13, so we follow the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and design the service to collect as little information as possible.

Children’s privacy (COPPA)

  • Children can play every game as a guest without creating an account or giving any personal information.
  • Student accounts are created by a parent, guardian or teacher. Teachers can create classroom logins that use a nickname and a 4-digit PIN, with no child email address required.
  • Where a school creates accounts, the school acts on the parent’s behalf and provides consent for educational use only.
  • We do not ask children for their full name, address, phone number, photos or location, and we ask that nicknames are not real full names.
  • We never sell children’s personal information or use it for marketing.
  • Parents may review, correct or delete their child’s information at any time by contacting us (see below).

Information we collect

  • Account details (for signed-in users): an email address of a parent/teacher or a system-generated classroom login, a chosen nickname, and a password or PIN, stored securely and encrypted in transit.
  • Learning activity: which words were spelled correctly or incorrectly, game type, points, coins, avatar choices and streaks. This lets parents and teachers see progress.
  • Device settings saved only in your browser: sound on/off, voice speed and guest progress.
  • Basic technical data needed to run the site securely (for example, IP address for security and abuse prevention).

Kid-safe advertising

askasher.ai is supported by display advertising. Ads shown on askasher.ai are configured to be non-personalized and child-directed: we flag our site as directed to children so ad partners such as Google AdSense do not use cookies for interest-based advertising, retargeting or profiling of users. Ads are clearly labeled ā€œAdvertisementā€ and kept separate from game content.

How we use information

  • To run the games, save progress, and award points, coins and streaks.
  • To show progress reports to the student’s parent or teacher.
  • To send emails a parent or teacher has chosen to receive (such as weekly word list alerts). You can turn these off at any time.

Sharing

We share information only with service providers that help us operate the site (hosting, database, email delivery), under contracts that limit their use of the data, or when required by law.

Data retention & deletion

We keep learning activity only as long as the account is active. Parents and teachers can request deletion at any time and we will delete the account and its activity.
